Mairead is a bone marrow transplant recipient and a newcomer to the team who brings bags full of enthusiasm and warmth with her. She had a bone marrow transplant from her donor brother Willie Lyons in 1997 when she was 18 years old. She is enjoying the focus that participation in the Games is giving her in relation to getting back involved in her favoured sports.
Mairead is looking forward to being a part of Transplant Team Ireland and meeting transplant recipients from around the world. She has a great support base at home in Berrings, near Blarney Co. Cork, who have been supporting her in her preparations and will be cheering her on during Games week.
