Rachel Eagleton received a transplant aged just 9-years-old in 1996. She resides in Bettystown, Co. Meath, the only daughter of her parents Tom and Gladys, and has one brother, Mark.
Rachel will be competing at this year’s World Transplant Games in the 30-39 category in the following events:
- Tennis Singles
- Tennis Doubles (partnering with Sheila Gregan)
Although not a newcomer to the team, Rachel took time out from Transplant Sport for a few years to pursue work and studies. Now that all her hard work has paid off, she has more time to give to her love of tennis, which is her sport at the forthcoming Games.
Rachel represented Ireland at three previous World Transplant Games held in Canada, Thailand and Spain. In Canada, she won two Gold medals for Tennis singles and doubles, and in Thailand, she secured a place on the medals podium whilst also medalling in Spain. She also won two Gold medals for tennis singles and doubles in Wurzburg, Germany at the European Transplant & Dialysis Games in 2008.
‘Being part of Transplant Team Ireland is good fun as there is great team spirit and camaraderie. By taking part in the Games, our team, and all the participants from across the world are showcasing how important organ donation is and the difference it can make for transplant recipients and their families.’
