Ron lives in Castleknock in Dublin with his wife Joyce. Together they have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Ron has retired but enjoys his time with music, golf and serving in his local church.
In his 20th year as a kidney transplant recipient, Ron greatly appreciates being part of Transplant Team Ireland which is like an extended family and has been competing at the European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Championships and the World Transplant Games since 2014.
Participating in transplant sports gives him the opportunity to honour his donor and their family and to illustrate that living life to the full is possible after a successful transplant.
If you were to recommend being a member of Transplant Team Ireland to others on dialysis or transplant recipients, what would you say are the benefits?
“The great family atmosphere in TTI. Being part of a group all of whom have had similar experiences with health issues and are enjoying “Loving new life”“
What do you hope to get from your World Games experience this year?
Ron will compete in the 70-79 age category and hopes to compete in Team Golf, Singles Golf,100 metres and 200 metres sprints and the Long Jump.
“Whilst winning a medal would be wonderful, it is a real gift being able to participate.“
Is there anything you are looking forward to about this year’s venue (Perth) in particular?
Never having been to Australia before, Ron is really looking forward to experiencing as much as possible of what Perth and other parts of Australia have to offer.
