Sinead McGowan – Galway

Sinead McGowan

Sinead McGowan received a living donor kidney transplant from her brother Seamus in 2009. She is originally from Renmore, Co. Galway, but is now living in Australia.

Sinead will be competing at this year’s World Transplant Games in the 40-49 category in the following events:

  • Track & Field – 1500m
  • Track & Field – 400m
  • Virtual Triathlon

Sinead has previously participated in the World Transplant Games in Sweden 2011, and Spain 2017 where she won a Silver medal for the 5km Road Race. She is looking forward to taking part in Newcastle this year.

After spending a year on dialysis, Sinead says receiving a kidney from her brother changed her life. She has since travelled the world, and lived in both Australia and Shanghai.

In particular, this year Sinead is looking forward to catching up with friends and celebrating healthy living and along the way encouraging people to discuss organ donation with their loved ones.

She describes Transplant Team Ireland as a “Great fun team that loves to compete – including in the nightly singing sessions!”
