Marie O’Connor has had two kidney transplant, and received her most recent in 1998. She resides in Lahinch, Co. Clare
Marie will be competing at this year’s World Transplant Games in the 50-59 years category in the following events:
- Golf Singles
- Golf Team
- Petanque Singles
- Track and Field – 100m
- Track and Field – Long Jump
Marie and previously participated in the World Transplant Games in Canada 2005, Thailand 2007 and Spain 2017. She has also taken part in the European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships in Hungary 2006, Germany 2008, Dublin 2010, Croatia 2012, Poland 2014, Finland 2016 and Italy 2018.
An avid golfer, Marie has nailed down a Gold medal in each country for golf. She has also performed remarkably well in track and field particularly in the 100m and 200m sprint events. In all the countries she has competed in she has always being placed in mostly first place securing Gold medals for the 100m sprint except for the biennial European Championships in Krakow, Poland in 2014 and the European Games in Vantaa, Finland in 2016 where she came in a very respectable second place at both securing Silver medals.
Marie describes her deceased kidney donors as her “ultimate Gold prizes”. She is looking forward to Newcastle this year, meeting up with new friends and old.
