A veteran to the Games, Dubliner Paul Prendergast, from Santry, will be competing at this year’s World Transplant Games in the 70-79 years category in the following events:
- Darts Singles
- Petanque Singles
- Petanque Doubles (partnering with Harry Ward)
- Ten Pin Bowling Doubles (Partnering Charlie Ryan)
- Ten Pin Bowling Doubles (Partnering Emma O’Sullivan)
Paul says, “Were it not for the kidney transplant I received many years ago I might not be alive today and would not be able to enjoy seeing all my children grow up and be here for my grandchildren.
‘I was sick all through my forties and because of my illness which sapped my energy levels it was a difficult time for myself and my wife, Rose, raising a large young family. By the time I was fifty I commenced dialysis treatment.
‘I will always be grateful to my donor for giving me the opportunity to enjoy living. Taking part in Transplant Sport is a way of showing my sincere gratitude.”
Paul has travelled and taken part in numerous European and World Transplant Games with Rose always close by to cheer him on.
