Philip Kavanagh received a liver transplant in 2008. He is originally from Dublin but has been living in Arklow, Co. Wicklow for 45 years.
Philip will be competing at this year’s World Transplant Games in the 70-79 years of age category in the following events:
- Golf Singles
- Golf Team
- Petanque Singles
- Track and Field – 100m
Philip is a retired scientist, married with three grown up children. His main hobby has been playing golf in Arklow Golf Links where he was Captain in 1988 and President in 1993.
Thanks to Transplant Team Ireland, he started running and has taken part in nine Run for a Life events. Philip won a gold medal in Poland and Silver medals in the 2010, 2014 and 2016 ETDSC in golf respectively, and is looking forward to partaking in this year’s games in Newcastle.

‘The games are a great social occasion and I look forward to meeting new and old friends. To come home with a medal from a World games would be very nice!”
