Days out in Newcastle Gateshead

The excitement is building for this year’s World Transplant Games in Newcastle Gateshead! The games themselves will provide plenty entertainment, but whilst visiting the city why not explore a little?

We’re delighted to learn that World Transplant Games participants can claim free entry to all English Heritage properties in The North East and Hadrian’s Wall. Admission will be granted on production of a valid WTG accreditation pass. Offer valid between 16th and 30th August 2019.

Alnwick Castle & Gardens

A realm of adventure awaits at one of Britain’s most iconic castles. The medieval Alnwick Castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in England. It has been used as a filming location for Downton Abbey and Harry Potter and adjacent to it has one of the most exciting contemporary gardens on earth – famous for it’s “Poison Garden”. Durham Cathedral, City of Durham and Beamish Museum

Author Bill Bryson called Durham City ‘a perfect little city’. The captivating city with winding cobbled streets and a prominent peninsula is crowned with the dramatic Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site. Built in 1093 the Cathedral is renowned for its magnificent Romanesque architecture and original medieval wall paintings. The medieval Cloister featured in the first two Harry Potter films. River Tyne Cruise

This 3 hour cruise takes you under the magical Gateshead Millennium Bridge, which opens especially for the cruise to enjoy the panorama of the Tyne Gorge before heading downriver as far as the river mouth. The cruise turns at the piers, where seals and dolphins are regularly spotted to then return to Newcastle’s Quayside. Tour details here.
